Garden Club

Our Year 6 Garden Club has planted their very first edible garden. After tasting and smelling some herbs and vegetables from Mr Wood's garden we got to work. We dug in compost for food, then planted seedlings and seeds. Lastly we watered our garden. We are taking turns watering it everyday.

  1. Team 17 - that's a great, great idea, we do something similar at Melville Intermediate we have school gardens where I am going to get the students to take a photograph tomorrow so we can compare them. You will have to update your blog with photo's as the vegetables grow so we can keep track of them!

  2. These are the learning opportunities so many of our US schools have stopped because of our high stakes testing.

What kind of plants did you plant? I am pretty fond of spearming myself. Why did you plant the marigolds?

  3. Team 17 - We had two students create a slideshow of our school garden using 'slide' with your site as the inspiration. We posted it at melvilleroom8.blogspot.com for people to come and have a look. Thanks for helping us.

  4. Good luck with your garden. I can tell that you put much thought into the planting process. Are you going to share the results with other students in your class when the plants come up?

  8. What a fantastic idea! I am thinking that Room 7 in Dunedin would like to grow a garden as well using their own home grown, school developed worm fertiliser. I wonder if we can grow the same plants as you in Auckland at this time of year...?
