Garden Club Harvest Sale

Our Garden Club harvested all our vegetables and herbs, then our member helped sort and bundle the vegetables and herbs. We were amazed by how much our garden produced. Our sale was very successful and we raised $150.00 for the 2011 school garden club.

Pearl- Being in the garden club was really fun because we get free vegetables and I love getting my hands dirty.

Shradha - I really enjoyed being in the garden club because we got free vegetables.

Catherine-I love to be in the Garden Club because we get a bit dirty and harvest the food.

Sheetel- I loved how we got our hands dirty and gardening is good for the summer

Sharnika - Being in the garden club was a lot of fun because we grew lots of vegetables and had our biggest harvest which we made over $100.

Junior/Middle – International
Bailey Road Team 17 - Shaun Wood teaches a Year 6 class in Mt. Wellington, Auckland, New Zealand and has been blogging in his classroom for the past two years.  ”I started the year using modeling and shared writing on our class blog. Now most posts are written by the students.” This classroom blog was also recently nominated for the 2010 Edublog’s “Best Class Blog” award. Recommended posts: “Trash 2 Fashion Challenge” and “Sign Language.”

Swim-a-rama

On the 9 of December our class went to Swim-a-rama (swimming.) It had the Hydro Slide, Commando course,diving and normal swimming pools plus a playground.
What we had to bring:
-Togs
-Water Bottle
-2 towels
-Lunch
-Morning Tea
-Uniform
-Goggles

We had a lot of fun and we wish we could stay there forever.

Kayaking

In kayaking we learnt how to paddle a kayak with paddles. It was easy but Kiu's left shoulder got sore. Some people fell out a lot: Steven-5; Kiu-5; Isaiah-4; A.J-1; Nick-9 times.
During kayaking we learnt how to change direction using the paddle and we played games.

My most fun moment was trying to climb over people to swap kayaks.
It was also cool and fun because we also got to jump off the kayak. I loved jumping in the water because it was hot day. By Kiu,Nick,AJ,Steve,Isaiah

Garden Club Harvest Sale

On the first day of summer The Garden Club harvested their fresh meadow green silver beet.

Mr.Wood took them to the teacher's staff room so we could sell them to teachers and raise money, so the next time we grow our garden we could afford to buy seeds to keep on the fantastic progress.

They have been growing for 7 weeks and we have decided to harvest them. So that the next time they are fully grown (in week ten) we will harvest it again and hopefully it would be a lot bigger.

I would just like to thank all the Garden Club members for making sure the garden is always watered and healthy as it is their responsibility.

Why we blog

Today we got a question from a university student in Germany who wants to use our blog as an example to show her teacher. She had some questions for us and we answered her in this blog.

When did we started blogging?
We started blogging in the beginning of the year. We first had just a class blog that we all added to. Now we also have our own blogs.

Why did we started blogging?
We wanted to learn more about the internet and e-learning. We are also able to share our writing and learning with our families and the world.

Do we like blogging?
Yes!!!!
We do like blogging it's really awesome, we love writing our own blog. And we love reading and commenting on other class blogs. We really like getting comments.

How we use it? Our teacher (Mr. Wood) made us our own personal blogs and the class so we just log in and write a blog post about our learning or our own interests. We always put something about what we are learning each week on the class blog.

What we don't like about blogging?
We don't like it when we write a whole big paragraph and when we write the same thing on the blog it looks really short.

Will we continue blogging when we're older? Most of us promise we'll keep blogging.

How To Make A Quill Pen

On Monday the 29 November, a student named Mapili, who made a Quill Pen by followed these steps.



Step 1: Find a large feather and ink.

Step 2: Cut the Quill diagonally ( an angle ) .

Step 3: Dip the Quill into the ink well.

Tip:
Dab the Quill on a spare paper to prevent blobs.

Step 4: Write gently and try not to smudge.

Vinegar Volcanoes

Vinegar Volcanoes
The Blog Dogs have done a volcano experiment like the one we read about in School Journal P2N2 2002, "Make a Volcano" by Jan Trafford this week. In small groups Team 17 compared them, and made 'Same / Different' T-charts of the two methods?


The group members choose roles of 'Narrator - Recorder - Actor - Supervisor' before planning their ingredients and method. Once they had set-up and practiced, ready were to record. The teamwork and cooperation in the groups was amazing.

Volcano experiment

Hi my name is Nicholas and we did an a experiment. In my group was Kiu, Sam and Isaiah.
first we got a bottle and painted it to make it look like a real volcano.

Secondly we put half a cup of baking soda and a few drops of food colouring. We got a camera and filmed Sam pour the vinegar, when he poured it in the volcano exploded and went everywhere.

***The Best Volcano Experiment Ever***

Our group had Shawn, Henrica, Mapili and Sharnika. We were doing a volcano explosion experiment. What we were trying to do is making a volcano explode using chemical reactions.

Our ingredients were:

A small bottle
A bit of baking soda
1/4 of a glass cup of vinegar
1/2 of warm water
3 drops of red food colouring
and scrapings from crayons.

We took a video and 2 photos on our experiment. We had to do an re-actment since we didn't press the record button long enough. But this time we had more explosion.

In my group is Me (Loretta), Saylor, Jan and Viola we made a volcano erupt.

These are the ingredients
1 half of backing soda, red food colouring and vinegar.
This is our test that we did.

Today Team 17 made volcanoes.
We had to get into a group of three. The people in our group were Pearl, Akansha and Priyasha.

How to make a volcano is to, get all the stuff you need.

What you need are:
1. Baking soda
2. Bottle
3. Vinegar
4.Measuring cup
5. Red food coloring
6. People

Steps
1. Get a bottle
2. Half fill bottle with baking soda
3. Pour it in the bottle hole
4. Few drops of food coloring
5. Mix with half cup of vinger
6. Pour over it with baking soda
 WATCH IT EXPLODE.

Our Mini Volcano

On the 19 November 2010 Catherine, Sheetel and Shradha made a mini volcano.

These are the stuff that you will need:
-Vinegar
-Baking Soda
-Bottle
-Red Food Colouring

And this is what happened.

The Garden Club's First Harvest

On the 19th of November 2010 the garden club got their first harvest of silverbeet.

We had 20 big bundles of silverbeet. We still have some silverbeet growing as we harvested the big silverbeet leaves. We have such a big group and have a roster for each day, lunch and morning tea.

Each garden club member took home a bundle of silverbeet, and we gave one to our principal.
