The Garden Club Story
The Year 6 Garden Club has explored gardening in term one. We have sprouted beans. We have dug compost in to soil, watered and feed the plants. Some we planted as seedlings and some, like radish and carrot, from seeds. All have grown so quickly. Luckily we have not had too many problems from caterpillars, snails and birds.
Garden Club members, please tell us about your experience this term with the garden.

Team Solar Moon on Global Warming
If it gets too hot in Antarctica all the ice will melt, and all the polar bears and penguins will die by drowning in the water, and the water will cause the water levels to rise, so some of the islands will be covered by water.

Team Dynamites Environmental Worries
Trees get wasted and die.
Whales are killed by the Japanese.
Rubbish are thrown away on our streets and goes into rivers.
See levels are rising which mean small islands get drowned.
People polluting, animals get strangled and hurt.
Rivers getting polluted.
Tornados, cyclones and tsunamis are happening.
The more smoke that goes in the sky and that the shield out side of the earth will start to make a hole and Antarctica will start to melt and countries will start to be flooded, there’s all already a hole in the shield.
We all need to take good care of the environment in order to save the Earth!

Silver Stars think about our environment
We the Silver Stars are worried that pollution will destroy the environment.
People are dumping their rubbish anywhere, even the recyclables which should be in the recycling bin.
When cars and planes take off they release smoke and birds and animals start to die. Oil leaks also leave animals lifeless especially if they are put in rivers where animals drink so they will die.
Plastic could get stuck on them and the beautiful environment will not be beautiful anymore.

How does our garden grow?
Our Garden Club is very excited by the success of our small patch. We take turns watering them daily and we look out for caterpillar eggs and snails. Last week we found the radishes and carrots we plated were growing too close to each other. This would stop them growing nice and big, so we pulled out some of the seedlings to give more space.

Our Avatar Indentities
We have been learning about protecting our identities online. We will use avatars instead of photos. After watching the trailer of the movie Avatar, we talked about the meaning of the word. This is also the week 2 challenge of the Edublogs Blog Challenge.

Our Butterfly Life Cycle Literacy Experience
This term we have watched monarch caterpillars and butterflies being born, growing and changing. It has been an amazing experience. We have also reading and writing about them during literacy. Plus, we have learnt some ICT skills along the way. Some are finding and giving credit for images we use, plus of course creating slide-shows. Can you think of other ICT skills we learnt?
In reading we have been learning to find key words and information when reading.
We will know we can do this when we are able to retell the information in our own words. In writing we were learning to write simple and compound sentences.
Please look through our slide-shows and comment on as many as you like. We love to hear what you think we did well, and where we can get better.
Each slide-show is posted separately so you can comment directly to the students who created that slide-show.

Bully Comics
Two weeks ago we saw a fun show about bullying. Two ladies acted out different types of bullying, then they showed us how to deal with them. YAY, because Team 17 does not like bullies!
Today we watched a fun music video about a bully and talked about what we thought the characters were saying (the video is below our work). Then we used a cool site called Speak Up! to create our own comics about different bully situations, and what we could do to solve them. Sorry they are small, if you click on the comic you can see them better.
