Wonderful Weta
Weta by Linda
Yesterday I was riding my bike and my brother Woody found a weta. He told me to squash the bug, but I went around it and jumped off my bike to see if the weta was ok. My brother got off his bike as well and he said that the weta was dead, so I picked it up and put it in a peaceful place. The next day I took it to school.

Team 17 leaders
This is our school Soapbox Derby Team who will be putting the go-cart together and racing it this Sunday. They have worked very hard learning to put together the cart which is a mechanical jigsaw. Already they have assembled it and taken it apart a few times. Shweta K representsTeam 17 in this amazing feat. Well done, we will be cheering for you.
"On the 22 of March, Bailey Road School is racing at Auckland netball courts. Today we are getting prepared for Sunday," said Shweta K.
The Soapbox Derby team is also supported and cheered on by an incredible cheerleader squad who stunned us all at the school assembly with their powerful Bailey Road cheers. Team 17 is proud to have four members in this squad;Rebecca, Latana-Maree, Shweta C and Alex. Awesome cheering girls.

Rat Playground Project
Our 'Creative Thinking Challenge' for the next few weeks is the Rat Playground Project.
Mr Wood brought his rats to school on Thursday and we all got to play with them and were given our technology challenge which we will be doing in groups.
The Challenge: Design and draw up plans for this rat playground, then build it using suitable materials.
• You must submit a brainstorm of your ideas.
• A Keynote slide presentation of your research that justifies your plan.
• Your plans need to be drawn up on A3 paper and well labeled.
• The playground cannot be bigger than 1m x 1m x 0.30m

- makes sure all parts of the project are complete on time
- collects building materials and shares out building tasks
- leads group presentation

Keeping Safe Online
Today we learnt what personal information is, and how to ourselves safe by not to give out personal details. Personal details are: first and last name, information about ourselves, our address, phone number, passwords, school, personal photos, our age and email address.
We also watched a video on Hector's World about keeping our personal information safe. [http://www.hectorsworld.com] More information on internet safety is available at NetSafe. [http://www.netsafe.org.nz]
We then created nicknames and avatars on the website 'Build Your Wild Self'. This showed how we had achieved our learning. [http://www.buildyourwildself.com]

Weekly Reflection by Team 17
This week we learnt about rhyming and rhythm poetry, the students who didn't swim on Tuesday created some great poetry about water.
"Swimming is fun, swimming is cool, swimming is the best thing to do in a pool." YB & PN
Every day we had assessments, and we are really tired of them, even though they are really good for Mr Wood to help us learn.
