Iron Brion's Beef & Lamb BBQ Express




We were lucky enough to have a visit from Iron Brion, he taught us the importance of a healthy, balanced diet.

After the show we were given hamburgers, they were made of bread buns, beef patties, lettuce and tomato.

Iron Brion taught us what the four food groups were and that everyone needs iron. I enjoyed the show and there were questions about what we had learned. The four food groups were meat and meat alternatives, fruit and vegetables, milk and dairy products, and cereal and bread. By Cara.

Mr Wood's Muffins

Mr Wood promised to baked some choc-chip muffins as a prize for our photographic competition. We are learning to take digital photographs in focus, using colour contrast for effect and composition using the rule of thirds.

Little Red Riding Hood Readers Theater

We have been learning use Readers Theater to re-read with expression.
We know this when we:

  • show the feelings

  • notice punctuation

"Little Red Riding Hood" was read by: Shweta K (Little Red Riding Hood) , Rebecca (Wolf and Grandma), Cara (Mum), Alex (Huntsman), Ben (Sound Effects), Damon and Phoenix (Narrators).

Answers to our Dairy Farming Inquiry

We have been researching dairy farming as a New Zealand resource. To do this we have been using the Bailey Road School Inquiry Process TEACH.

Here we have presented some of our findings as a cow on our topic wall.

Photo of the Week

We are learning to take digital photos and be eco-artists at the same time. By taking photos of trash around the school we hope people will see how much litter there is.

This week we are focusing on composition. Composition is the way we set up our photo, the angles and colours we choose. A good rule is the rule of thirds, which means we try use two thirds of the photo frame.

This photo is the best of the week, it has good composition, good colour and an interesting photo.

How we made the Mad Cows

Well first you will need the materials.
1. Cardboard; to work on, it goes under the paper and when you draw and dye it
2. White paper A3; if you have it
3. Ink Dye; different bright colours
4. Black and white crayons

Instructions:
First you get the cardboard to put over your desk to keep it clean.
Then you get the paper about a A3 size of paper.
Next you get a dark color crayon like black, blue or purple and you must have a white crayon too.
Draw shapes for the body like a circle for a head and a rectangle for the body.
When you have finished drawing your cow, go over it as dark as you want with a dark crayon like black. Remember don't fill in blank spaces, the ink dye will go there.
Use you white crayon to make line and marks where you don't want dye to stick.

What we did with our cows was we just did shapes for the body, legs and face.
Then when we had finished we painted different coloured dye on top.
The crayon doesn't need to be perfect because the dye fills in the gaps.

Trash Photo Assessment Week 3

We are learning to assess our digital photographs:
Once your week 3 trash photo is in your new blog post, you need to write a reflection. Your reflection is an assessment of how well you achieved the Learning Intention and Success Criteria of that lesson. (LI: We are learning to take photographs that use contrasting colours to make the image stand out).

Our Success Criteria are:
  1. The background colour of the photograph is a contrasting colour to the piece of trash.
  2. We can explain what a contrasting colour is.
  3. The photograph is in focus.
  4. The trash image fills the frame of the photograph.
